Free background remover comparison: which free tier fits your task

A like-for-like look at the free plans of the popular background removers, what you get before you pay, and where Glimbench differs.

How to read this comparison

This page compares only the free tier of each tool. Figures were read from the vendors' own help or pricing pages and checked on 10 October 2026; free plans and prices change often and can vary by region, so open the vendor's page before you rely on a number. "Where it runs" means the cutout is made either on the vendor's servers (your photo is uploaded) or on your own device.

What actually decides your choice

Five things separate these tools more than the quality of a single cutout. Sign-up: some ask you to create an account before the download button produces a usable file. Free output size: a cutout you cannot use at full resolution is the most common surprise, and remove.bg's free web preview is capped near 0.25 megapixels. Free limits: per day, per month or per batch. Where the image goes: every cloud tool uploads your photo, so pick one whose privacy policy you accept. And manual control: none of these free tiers includes a precise erase or restore brush, so difficult edges are fixed in another editor.

Where Glimbench fits, and its limits

Glimbench is aimed at one job: an original-size transparent PNG without an account. Single images are free and unlimited, with no watermark, and the model runs in your browser, so the photo itself is not uploaded. Free batches cover up to 5 images at a time.

The trade-offs are real. There is no manual erase or restore brush, so fine hair, fur, glass and low-contrast edges may need a retouching tool afterwards. The high-quality cutout model is offered only on devices that pass a WebGPU check, and speed depends on your device, including a one-time model download. Check the result against a light and a dark background before you use it.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free background remover with no sign-up?

Glimbench and Pixelcut both offer a free web remover without an account, and remove.bg lets you try the web preview without signing in. The catch is usually output size: a no-account download is often a low-resolution preview, and higher resolution needs an account or payment.

Why is my free download blurry or small?

Some free plans export a reduced preview instead of the full image. remove.bg's free web output is capped near 0.25 megapixels, so a large photo comes back small. Glimbench keeps the original pixel dimensions on free single images, though the cutout accuracy still depends on the source photo.

Do free background removers upload my photos?

Most do. remove.bg, PhotoRoom, Canva, Adobe, Clipdrop and Pixelcut process the image on their servers. Glimbench runs the model in your browser, so the photo is not uploaded; only the page, the one-time model download and optional analytics use the network.
